Welcome to Kris Anderson – Friends of Music's new Executive Director.

Kris Anderson

Kris recently moved to Victoria from Vancouver where she was the founder and director of the DOXA Documentary Film Festival for 12 years. She has had more than 25 years of experience with community groups and all aspects of arts and organizational management. She has worked extensively with Boards, sponsors and funders, done community outreach, marketing and promotion, developed programs in the arts for a diverse range of artists and audiences, and worked with many volunteers. Kris is bringing a lot of skills, experience and ideas to the job.

We were very pleased that, in response to our job advertisement for the position, we received so many applications from highly qualified individuals offering lots of good experience. The selection committee carefully rated each applicant against the requirements and qualifications for the Executive Director. This, in itself, was not an easy task, as there were so many good applicants. Those who rated the highest according to our criteria were interviewed. Again, the calibre was just excellent and we felt we were really lucky that so many people were interested in Friends of Music!

We are delighted that Kris has accepted the position of Executive Director. She will be getting a start in December but will begin full time in January. Look forward to meeting her and working with her!

December 15th was the 19th annual Christmas Dinner and Dance hosted by Friends of Music. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed wonderful performances by the Moodswing Orchestra, Moodswing Chorus and Minds at Work. A highlight was the guest performance by Elvis, who really worked the crowd!

There were 200 people in attendance enjoying dining, dancing and socializing – not to mention the door prizes and spot dances with more prizes!
